About MSMA
MSMA are a charity that seeks to promote Mary’s life and work whilst also raising funds for the upkeep of her grave and hosting a wreath laying ceremony in May every year.
Brief History of MSMA
The Mary Seacole Memorial Association (MSMA) evolved from the Friends of Mary Seacole. Originally established, by Connie Mark MBE, BEM, Shirley Graham-Paul and Vie Lawrence.
The first meeting of the Friends of Mary Seacole took place at the former Jamaican High Commission, 50 St .James St, London, during October 1981.
The Association was also supported by His Excellency Ernest Peart, Jamaican High Commissioner to the Court of St James, The Lignum Vitae Club and West Indian Ex-Servicemen & Women's Association. Those present were Connie Mark, Chairman/ Secretary, Shirley Graham-Paul, Vice-Chairman, Vie Lawrence, Margaret Brayton, Naida Catouse, Maud Henry, Herma Fernandez, Norma Mesquita, Steve Tharpe, Editha Tharpe and Sister Monica Twang.
MSMA observes the annual wreath-laying ceremony and procession to the grave of Mar:y Seacole at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Harrow Rd, London on second Saturday each May.
Throughout 2006, MSMA has evolved again by recognizing it's own pioneers, respectir. the achievements of peers and sourcing authentic memorabilia. MSMA has also adoptee the Mary Seacole Bicentenary London 2005 Legacy themes of Historical Perspectives, Professional Development, Education & Training and Healthy Communities.
The future emphasis will be to focus on Children & Young People, Care of the Elderly and Menta Health.
